Based in between Paris and Milan, he specialized in sports, equestrian and advertising photography, collaborating with numerous French and global publications. A sports fan and lover of speed, Giampaolo built his talent capturing moving subjects.
His perspective often captures unusual details while exploring unexpected points of view. Gifted with a peculiar sensitivity in balancing light and shadow, he knows how to glamorously depicts the strength and beauty of an action. The first remarkable showcase of his ability appeared on a reportage on the stage of Roland Garros, with tennis superstars Nadal and Federer. He subsequently photographed numerous world-class athletes, such as Sébastien Chabal, Camille Lacourt, and Andy Roddick, for advertising campaigns. He drafted photo editorials for prestigious magazines, such as Vanity Fair, Sport & style, or L’Uomo Vogue, photographing Zlatan Ibrahimović, Nicolas Anelka, Morgan Parra, Vincent Clerc, Byron Kelleher to name just a few.
Horse photography is also one of his favorite subjects, he developed this sensibility after acquiring a thoroughbred and been closely involved for thirteen years. His work for the Palio di Siena has seen widespread exposure in Italy and France between 2000 and 2002.
He is the author of numerous advertising campaigns for “France galop”, (a French group organizing national flat race and obstacle), has contributed to the French fashion house Hermès to their book of riding and Longines for their campaigns related to the world of horse racing, taking place in the most prestigious racecourses as The Kentucky Derby & Oaks at Churchill Downs, The Royal Ascot at Ascot , Prix de Diane at Chantilly or The Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick where Longines is the main sponsor.
In 2010 he is hired by the Association of Jockeys for an important reportage for the exposition “Les Sportifs de l’Extrême”, entirely dedicated to the world of horse racing. On this project, Giampaolo Vimercati illustrated the intense and dangerous job of the jockey. Following the great success of the Deauville expo, eight of these images are selected for a monumental exposition in front of the tribunes of the Chantilly racetrack, installed during the Prix du Jockey Club and the Diane Longines in June 2012. Giampaolo Vimercati images are still exposed at “Hippodrome Auteuil, le Temple de obstacle”, since May 2013.
In 2016 after of a photo shoot with the Australian rugby player Luke Mclean, he had the idea to integrate video in his vision. So, he produced his first video, later published on Italian Rolling Stone magazine and web. Since then videos and photos has been produced with the coolest athletes in different sports, currently posted at Rolling Stone Italia.
Since December 2018 and during 2019 he directed & produced a series of videos The Longines Masters season V for EEM who managed the events. The videos has been presented at the end of the year as trailers for the upcoming season. He also shot a series of still pictures, during the events that has been exhibited in Lausanne in June 2019.
