Milva Gigli

Born in Milan. In the early 80s she moved to London and then Berlin for personal research. Discovering the Underground culture, really fertile at the time for new artistic expressions and new codes, opened to her a new world and a new vision. Milva found out that the only language that she totally understood is the one of music, photography, fashion and clothes and decided that this would be her job.

Back in Milan, she enrolled at Maragoni fashion design school. At this point in time she felt ready for a new experience and she discovered a new profession, styling. The first important editorial experiences date back to Donna magazine and then began a long and happy collaboration with “Elle” Italia, where Milva had the opportunity to work with photographers and models with an international profile. In the meantime, she had the opportunity to work on other collaborations for Italian and international newspapers and doing the consultancy for advertising campaigns, fashion shows and videos. All this led Milva Gigli to continuously develop her experiences on different media and to travel consistantly for many years. She had the opportunity and the honor of working with photographers of undisputed fame, first of all Helmut Newton, and with young talents, a 360-degree experience: great gratitude.

The consultancy work also included styling for fashion shows for brands ranging from the rookie Victor Bellaish of the early zero years, to the well-established Etro or Roberto Cavalli. In the middle of the 90s she moved to New York to attend a 2 months full immersion workshop on Filmmaking at NY Film Academy. In 1997 she started a collaboration with D la Repubblica, created and directed by Daniela Hamaui, here she began to work on projects that involved a new generation of photographers at an international level but most of all a new type of media, an absolutely new women’s magazine.

After a few years of freelance collaboration, she joined the staff of D in 2002, later on she became a professional journalist and in through the years she had held various roles, up to becoming the Deputy Editor in Chief.

Since 2019 Milva Gigli have resumed her role as a contributor for the magazine and therefore as an image consultant for other media as well.
